This semi-extreme idea seems to be highly effective (and quite hilarious!). To explain, an AFS Volunteer shares this fundraising experiment:

"A student, in collaboration with some friends, had a campaign where he would let his fellow students shave his head in a public, lunchtime ceremony (in the campus courtyard), if and when he got to the point of raising money towards his AFS community service trip to Costa Rica.

His campaign was successful, and he raised the goal amount set. Therefore, the student's friends carved his hair up something funny, resembling a perpendicular mohawk across his head (and I think that he had to wear it that way until winter break, or something)."

Hair grows back, right?
