Chipin Widget
Mar 4 2009, 10:06 PM EST | Post edited: Mar 4 2009, 10:06 PM EST
I started a sponsor an AFSer blog using a Chipin widget to fund raise for my trip this summer to Ghana. I started to receive money. Yeah! But I cant see the comments that people leave or track who is giving money. I would like to be able to send thank you emails. Any idea how this function works? I emailed Chipin, but they have yet to respond

Congrats on receiving money through this, Angela! You won't see any comments (this would just be posted directly to your blog) but AFS will email you once each month to let you know the names and amounts of people who have contributed. If you have more immediate questions or would like an update more than once each month, please email scholarships@afs.org.

Hey Kirsten. Thanks for the reply. I guess I will send out an email letting people know they can post comments to my blog instead. My Dad said the Chipin widget lets you post a comment but for some reason it does not show up at AFS. Once a month should be fine unless I start getting a lot more donations. I don't want to wait too long before I send a thank you email to people who donate. Has anyone else had success with Sponsor an AFSer? One last question. What happens if I go over $1000. Does the Chipin start again at $1000 or does it set to $2000?

Hey Angela.
We just started Sponsor an AFSer in December so no one has raised a huge amount yet, but other students have definitely had some success! Check out http://sponsoranafser.org/ to see all the students currently participating in this project. As for the $1000 limit--basically we just put that on the widget because you have to have some limit, but I'll raise this to $2000 as soon as you pass it so that you can keep tracking your progress overall. At the rate you're going, that should just be a few more weeks, right? :-)

Hey, All you need to do is complete the preliminary application, start a blog ( I used Blogger), and follow the insstructions to Sponsers and AFSer. It involves sending and email with a link to your blog url to the email address at AFS listed in the wiki. The send you back a link to the widget in an email. Then you cut and paste it onto your blog and bling its done. I then used email addresses in my dads email address book and send out a letter to hundreds of people. Hopefully they start to send some money back. Oh yeah, test the widget to make sure it works first!

Sorry, I meant to say Sponsor an AFSer, here is the link http://afsfundraising.wetpaint.com/page/Sponsor+an+AFSer. I asked my Dad and he said he believes it is in US dollars only, isnt that what AFS is charging anyway?

ok thanks....AFS provide us with information thats in Malaysian ringgit....so its rather hard asking Malaysians' to donate in US dollars...we are rather 'kiam siap' or stingy in this economic crunch.Well thanks again for all your info Do you find this valuable?

Yes--this project is only for US students applying to study abroad through AFS-USA. Please contact AFS in your home country if you're interested in fundraising ideas...good luck! Do you find this valuable?
